Only 3 stars in the NCAP crash test – How safe is the new Dacia Bigster?
Dacia has launched its first larger model, the Bigster, and the SUV has already received a lot of advance praise. But now there are only 3 stars in the NCAP crash test. How safe is the Dacia Bigster?
The brand new Dacia Bigster has received a damper from the safety experts at NCAP. The new SUV has only received three stars and it raises the question of whether the Bigster is unsafe.
Dacia Bigster crash test – How safe is the new SUV?
The new Bigster is actually Dacia's big hit to gain a foothold in larger segments with its price-performance approach. But has the manufacturer saved "too much" on the safety of the new Bigster? The 3-star rating from NCAP definitely provides a moment's break. In the evaluation by NCAP, however, not only the general safety of a vehicle in the event of an accident is important, but also the availability of safety assistants and the safety of other road users such as pedestrians are important for the final score.
So sind auch schon andere Dacia-Modelle mit eher geringen Punktzahlen bei den NCAP-Tests aufgefallen wie etwa der Dacia Duster (3 von 5 Sternen). Dabei gab es aber vor allem Abzug wegen fehlender Sicherheitsassistenten, schlechtem Schutz für andere Verkehrsteilnehmer und einer Schwäche beim Frontalaufprall. Ähnlich zeigt sich dieses Bild dann auch beim Bigster. Vielleicht nicht ganz überraschend, da sich die Fahrzeuge eine Plattform teilen.
Dacia Bigster im NCAP-Crashtest – Mittelmäßig aber nicht unsicher
Im genauen Bericht von NCAP ist das Ergebnis des Dacia Bigsters genauer aufgeschlüsselt. Beim Schutz von Kindern an Bord ist der Bigster gut mit einer Wertung von 85 %, dafür federt er hauptsächlich beim Insassenschutz von Erwachsenen (69 %), sowie den Sicherheitsassistenten (57 %) und dem Schutz anderer Verkehrsteilnehmer (60 %).
Die Schwäche des Dusters beim Schutz von Fahrerin oder Fahrer beim Frontalaufprall setzt sich leider auch am Bigster fort. So stuft NCAP den Schutz des Brustbereichs sowie des rechten Unterschenkels als schwach ein, auch bei einem Aufprall von der Seite gibt es Schwächen wie einem fehlendem Airbag zwischen Beifahrer und Fahrer. Insgesamt hat der Bigster aber ein passables Ergebnis beim Insassenschutz. Es sind vor allem die fehlenden Assistenten und Sicherheitserinnerungen sowie der fehlende Schutz für andere Verkehrsteilnehmer, die die Bewertung nach unten ziehen.

With only 60% in the rating for other road users, the Bigster is not as considerate of pedestrians or cyclists. Above all, the stiff A-pillar and the lower windshield are criticized. When protecting the pool from people who had been hit by a car, the Bigster could not score a single point. The assistance systems that are not offered for cost reasons are also reflected in poor ratings. According to NCAP, the installed systems are all in all satisfactory, so the problem here is rather the lack of optional systems.

Overall, the 3 out of 5 star rating isn't as bad as it seems at first glance. After all, there is more to the assessment than just the stereotypical frontal crash test. For example, the occupant protection is rated as acceptable and the low score is mainly explained by the lack of assistance systems or the inadequate protection of other road users. Nevertheless, Dacia has of course saved money to be able to offer the low price for the SUV. So, if safety is most important to you while driving, you might want to consider another vehicle, but the Dacia Bigster is not an unsafe vehicle.
